Swim Groups

The McFarland Spartan Sharks offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the McFarland Spartan Sharks to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

2010-2011 McFarland Spartan Sharks Program Descriptions
 
 
Mini Sharks (Ages 6-9+/-) Meet 2x/week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:00pm. Updated practice schedules can be found on spartansharks.com.
 
Prerequisites: Completion of Perch swim lessons and/or swimmers must perform one length backstroke and one length freestyle.
 
Skills Covered: Technique in all four strokes. This includes overview of drills, starts, and finishes.
 

 
B-Team (Ages 8-11+/-) Meets 3-4x/week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and some Saturdays from 3:15-4:00pm. Updated practice schedules can be found on spartansharks.com.
 
Prerequisites: Swim four lengths of the pool (100 meters) using 3 of the 4 competitive strokes. Swimmers should also be comfortable swimming a 45min. practice, display good listening skills, and demonstrate self motivation.
 
Skills Covered: We average about 1000 to 1500 meters a practice. Skills covered include stroke refinement, drill review, starts, turns, and improving aerobic capactiy.
 

 
A-Team (Ages vary depending on ability) Meets 5-6x/week Monday-Friday from 3:15-4:15pm, and some Saturdays. Updated practice schedules can be found on spartansharks.com.
 
Prerequisites: Coaches evaluation.
 
Skills Covered/Guidelines: A-Teamers average 2000-3000 meters a practice. Skills covered include overview of drills, technique, starts & turns, and improving aerobic capacity.
 

 
PreSeniors (Ages vary depending on ability) 8 practices per week offered including Monday-Friday afternoons, Tuesday + Thursday morning dryland sessions, and 1 weekend swim practice. Updated practice schedules on spartansharks.com. 
 
Prerequisites: Prior swim team experience. Coaches evaluation.
 
Skills Covered/Guidelines: Average 3-4000 meters a practice. Continued emphasis of A-Team skills are a priority, along with introducing faster-paced swims in practice.
 
*November start option- session includes a November start option for team members simultaneously participating in a school sport or other Fall activity.
 

 
Seniors (Ages vary depending on ability, but are most always 13&older) 9 practices per week. Includes Monday-Friday mornings + Monday-Thursday afternoons, & 1 weekend swim practice.  Updated practice schedules on spartansharks.com. 
 
Prerequistes: Prior swim team experience, and coaches discretion.
 
 
Skills/guidelines: Equal emphasis on technique and improving swim speed/efficiency. Swimmers need to display good technique in all 4 strokes in order to complete practices and remain injury-free.
 
*November start option- session includes a November start option for team members simultaneously participating in a school sport or other Fall activity.
** High School boys and girls swimmers have a seperate fee.
