Derrick has over 13 years of experience in the sport of
swimming. He is a McFarland Spartan Shark and UW-Madison Badger
Alumni. He has competed in meets such as Big Ten Conference
Championships, US Nationals, US World Championship Trials, and US
Olympic Trials. He has had the opportunity to compete against some
of the best swimmers in the world and learn from some of the best
coaches in the sport. One of his favorite quotes is from an amazing
team called team fun, who have been quoted saying, "The only time
worth having is the time of your life."
Nick is a former MSS and McFarland
High School swimmer. He has held multiple MSS and High School
team records and was a two-time Junior National Qualifier.
Nick went on to swim at UW-Green Bay. He has worked with MSS
at all levels since 2005 and is currently Senior Co-Head
Coach. Nick has worked with the High School teams since 2003
working as Assistant Coach for the boys and girls teams and
currently as Head Coach for the boys. This past season Nick helped lead the
12-Under team to a Division 2 State Championship. He also
lead the High School Boys team to their 4th straight Division 2
State Championship. One of Nick's favorite quotes: "Swimming
is all about having fun...and getting better is fun!"
This is Angie’s 8th season assisting
with MSS. In the past Angie has played an important role in
coaching our spring clinics, distance team, PreSeniors coaching,
and has been our Publicity and Advertising Chair on the MSS board
as well. Angie really does a great job of motivating our team and
making our team strive for their goals.
Neil has been a member of the McFarland Spartan Shark and the
McFarland H.S. boys swim team. He is an excellent addition to
our program and brings a lot of swimming experience and knowledge
to our team. We are fortunate to have him working with our
B-team and pre-senior swimmers this season.
Coaching experience - I have been the
assistant coach of the boys high shcool swim team for the past 3
years. This last spring/summer was my first year coaching the
pre-senior group for the sharks. I am currently coaching the
B-team and pre-seniors.
Favorite swimming or coaching experience - One
of my favorite swimming experiences was winning a close race in the
100 free @ Conference my senior year. Swimming at the state
meet all 4 years was very memorable also. Winning 3
consecutive state title as assistant coach with the high school
boys was also also very memorable.
Outside the pool - When I'm not at the pool
I enjoy playing drums with the two bands I'm currently
in. I also spend a lot of time playing guitar, bass, and
keyboard.
Quote or comment from a coach or teacher that has stuck
with me - My old club coach Dave Dahler always had a
positive influence on me. Stu Schaefer, Angie O'Donnell, and
Nick Weiss have also been very helpful in introducing me to
coaching.
Originally from Seattle, Eric recently
graduated from the UW-Madison and is a four year letter winner and
record holder for the swim team. He is
an 18 year swimming veteran who participated in Club swim for King
Aquatics, High school, and a summer swim league. He has been a part of every level there is in the
sport including a zone qualifier, multiple state champion, big ten
finalist, NCAA qualifier, National finalist, and Olympic trials
qualifier. This is Eric’s first
year as a Spartan Sharks coach and is extremely excited to share
his knowledge but more importantly learn from other coaches and
swimmers around him. “I am
thrilled to become a part of the shark family and hope we can swim
fast and have fun at the same time.”
I have been coaching for about four years now. I started
coaching the mini sharks a couple years ago and then I took a break
from it. Last summer, I coached the A-Team and this will be my
second summer coaching them. I swam from ages 10-14 under coach Stu
Schafer and I had a blast! I am going to be a senior at Edgewood
College and my major is Elementary Education with a minor in
Mathematics. I also run on the cross country and track team at
Edgewood College. "There is no plan b...there is just the A-Team!"
Coaching
experience: 14 years of MSS coaching, McFarland High School
Girls / Boys Head Coach, Maple Bluff All City Swim Team, Edgewood
High School Boys swim team coach, and Waterloo USS Swim Team.
The
2009-10 Shark season was incredible for McFarland swimming.
Our 12&under state team was 1st in D2 and our Senior swimmers
did very well placing 3rd in the men's high point at the 2010
speedo meet. We continue to prove to Wisconsin that we have one of
the strongest teams in the state. I’m looking forward
to another rewarding year coaching our B-team group! The
future looks good for our team and I look forward to seeing you at
the pool!
This is Miles 3rd season working with our Mini Sharks and we are
fortunate to have him. Miles is also an active MSS Senior
swim team member, is a licensed WSI teacher at the McFarland
Pool and is a strong leader for his M.H.S. swim team as well.
